what is the maximum thickness a touch 5 can hold?

I have a card case on my phone so it makes my phone about 7/8 inches thick. I have the touch 4 and my phone barely stays in place but pops off during hard cornering. Is the touch 5 bigger? What are the dimension on the two side post that hold the phone? Is there a life hack to make the two side holders longer on the touch 4? Thanks
